Photo Hunters: Birds
The Photo Hunters theme this week is birds! I am a little bit lucky to live in south Florida, because there are many, many strange birds in my own back yard. I like to sit in the window and watch them.
This bird is called a Great White Heron. I think he is fishing. Probably only skinny fish will be able to fit down his neck. Maybe some worms, too.
ps: Harley is a finalist in Catster's World's Coolest Cat Competition! To check out all of the finalists and vote for your favorite, go HERE! Harley is a finalist in the Stretch & Yawn category and the Funny Face category. If you can't decide, maybe you could vote for the Funny Face one so the votes are not split up. Thanks!
75 Notes for Daisy:
That blue heron does not look very blue to me! But you have such a good assortment of birds in your garden Daisy. I would like to sit and watch them too.
Wow, we don't see such cool birds here!! Mummy tells us stories about pigeons she sees on the way to work, but I think that's about it...
You have a very interesting collection of birds in your yard. How do you tear yourself away from the window?!
Those birds must be interesting to watch, but we kind of don't like their huge and strong beaks. Shudder...
Wow Daisy, you have a very interesting and beautiful back yard!
You have some amazing birds in your neighbourhood. Our birdies are little and fly around in the trees, and we never get good pictures of them.
Ooches of smooches
Wow you do get such impressive birds in your back yard!. I'm sure a pussy cat can dream about hunting them.....
Awesome looking birds, no wonder you like to watch out the window so much.
Way to go Harley, I'll have to go check it out and cast a vote for you.
Wow this happens at your backyard I like to seat and watch them all. Nice shot too thanks for sharing. Mine is up..
My Life’s Journey in Focus

Good luck to Harley!
Your pictures are beautiful, Daisy! We can now understand how cool it is to have all sorts of different birdies around. We also have blue herons and ducks, plus gulls, hawks, vultures, an occasional eagle and a whole lot more of the smaller birds.

You are very lucky, Daisy! Gus and Pru would love to look at something besides squirrels, bunnies, and sparrows. Perhaps they could come over for a play date?
You have some interesting birds in your yard, Daisy, and big too!
I am surprised that Harley isn't glued to the window. Our favorite is the Wood Stork. They are very rare and they are gorgeous. Those big birds are great to have around.
Holy mackeral! Those birdies are bigger than you guys!
You have amazing birds in your back yard. My Mom and Dad have seen some of them when they visit Florida, but at our house we mostly see sparrows and doves and chickadees. Though we do have some Woodpeckers too!
Daisy, you are a lucky girl to see so many unusual birdies. Sorry about the poops on your patio, though.
Um, and I'm not really sure the stork delivers babies. You might want to put your professor glasses on and go check that out in an encyclopedia.
Wow! We never have opportunity to see real birds in our entire life! You're lucky Daisy. Thanks for sharing the photo (^_^).
Oh ya, all the best to Harley!! We can't vote coz you need a username to vote. Since it's the site for Dogs and Cats, do you think we will fit there? Anyway, you get our fully supports, Harley!!!
Love,
Alex & Lolo

I gots berdles on mah lawn too. They go ook-ook-ook and skonk-skonk-skonk. :)
Outstanding photos! Florida has such magnificent birds. We have the Blue Heron in New York-- one once flew beside my minivan on the highway. It was spectacular! But alas, I had no camera in hand.
I like your Wood Storks. I once caught a glimpse of one, delivering my daughter down the chimney. He made me very happy and I hope to thank him someday. ;)
The Great Blue Herons summer in Prince Edward Island, where #1 goes in the summer, and there are always dozens in the shallow waters outside the cottage!
Well thanks for sharing Daisy!
Do you and Harley chatter at those big birds??
What cool looking birds. We have that heron, but not those hairy ones. Have fun bird watching
Benny & Lily
The birds is big!
Have a great weekend!
We think those are all awfully large birds! We are used to little birds that are smaller than we are.
Do you cackle at those birds, Miss Daisy? You've got so many around you, I'll bet you're ALWAYS cacklin' at somebird!
I voted for Harley!
That's great, Harley! Congratulations! Liked seeing all your bird pictures.

My People #1 is from Florida where our previous cat Mary chooses him.
It is nice to see pictures with all the interesting plants and animals.
We go to Florida for Christmas week and I can hardly wait!
I vote for Harley -- I hope he wins.
Paws 'n Claws,
Rupert
What a wonderful selection of magnificent birds .... rather tantilising for sweet Daisy, though! My cat sits and watches for hours at a time when the bird table is stocked .... thankfully she doesn't go into stalking mode nowadays - the watching appears to be satisfying enough!
We have voted for Harley.
We get herons here too. They go into our neighbours ponds and steal his fish. Our mum used to have muscovies but we never saw them, We did see one that visited from another neighbour's farm once though. That was very interesting.
I voted for Harley!
We have Great Blue Herons here too. They perch in the pine trees and look really funny.
Very educational post.
That was very educational about birds. We have some herons around Portland but we have never seen them that close up. Most of our birds HERE are small, except for some raptors....
Congrats to Harley! We are off to vote!!!
Beautiful birds Daisy! You have a lot to watch from your window. What a lovely post.
Thank you for visiting!
Hugs
Anna
Those are some big birds.. I dont think I would like to stalk them as they might eat me.. Thanks for showing us.. I will go vote now.. Hugs GJ xx
Hi Daisy!
I love all of the photos! Great shots!
I wanted to let you know that you have been presented the Best Blog Award by http://www.wild-facts.com.
Congratulations! You definitely deserve many awards for keeping us entertained every day!
My kitties would love to be looking out your windows. They love birds!
Those herons are beautiful, but very deceiving! Glogirly once saw one eat a fish the size of a small CAT. I'm a small cat. You're a small cat. You get my drift.
Great photos!
mew,
Katie
(Glogirly's cat)
Daisy, watch out for those ibis, they look like they could seriously peck you! I went for something you would probably love to watch. . . http://healingmagichands.wordpress.com/2009/11/21/photohunt-birds/
We think we would FREAK OUT if we saw birds as big as yours, Daisy. The biggest bird we ever saw face to face was a crow and it was very noisy.
Purrs, Raymond and Busby
Those are some really cool birds Miss Daisy. But their beaks are kinda scary.
We wonder if that's the same blue heron who spends his summer fishing in our pond up here? I loved the bird lesson....AND voting for Harley's funny face! Now come over and help me name my new kitty please!
Nice collectionof birds to watch. we used to live in FL too but here in NC the bird are much smaller!
Gee Daisy, those birds are pretty big!! We only have 'regular' sized birds, heehee
We giggled at Harley on his pirate ship, especially the 'chewing off the anchor' bit :)
Enjoy your view of the birds!!
Purrs Mickey,Georgia & Tillie
whoa. lucky you indeed! all those visitors coming in for a quick hello- or poop hehe
You have the best backyard! So many things to watch.
Wow, you have so many cool birds in Florida!!
These are awesome shots. Ma says there are herons around these parts in the marshy areas.
Thanks for stopping by my ma's blog.
Thanks for showing us all the birds. Jack has a catbird outside that yacks at him the whole time he is outside. I guess that's why it's called a catbird.
All those are very interesting birds!
The ones who live here are... just birds!
Kisses and hugs
Lorenza
We wish we had ducks to poop on our patio.
Mom always loves to see the GBH and Egrets fly!
I think they eat spaghetti too!
Hugz&Khysses,
Khyra

Such pretty pics. It must be fun to live in such a pretty place :)
We have lots of Canada Geese roaming in our neighborhood. They leave gigantic poops everywhere!

What beautiful photos! And I love the commentary; "These are ducks. They poop on my patio".... hahahahaha!
Good luck Harley!!!
