How Does THAT Work? Adoption!

Not EVERYBUDDY knows that I was ADOPTED from a SHELTER! Today I want to EXPLAIN how a CAT can get a FOREVER home. Because I want EVERY cat to have a GOOD home.
First, it helps if you are BORNED CUTE. This is me on the VERY DAY I was BORNED. See how CUTE I was? LUCKILY, all kitties are borned cute so this should not stop ANY kitty from getting a Forever home. Did you know I was BORNED in the SHELTER? My mamacat was FERAL and she came to the shelter to be SPAYED. But they found out I was INSIDE her BELLY and let me be BORNED! I never got to MEET my mamacat. I HOPE she is HAPPY.
I lived at the SHELTER for SIX months. That is a LONG time. While you are there, it is GOOD to be NICE to all the other cats. I made MANY friends when I lived there. Do you RECOGNIZE me? I am the BIG cat on the LEFT. I liked to give HUGS to the other little cats. Most of my FRIENDS at the shelter left BEFORE me. I was a little SAD to say GOODBYE to them, but I was also GLAD they got good HOMES. Living in the SHELTER is not as much fun as living in a real HOME.
I liked to stay BUSY playing and playing and playing with TOYS when I lived there. But when PEOPLE came to look at all the CATS, I stopped playing and looked as HANDSOME as I could! There must have been MANY other MORE handsome cats at the time because they did not PICK me.
FINALLY, when I got my FOREVER home with Daisy, I was HAPPY!!! This was me on my FIRST day at HOME! I KNEADED and PURRED all day long. Just so they would know I was HAPPY!
The most IMPORTANT thing is for EVERY cat to get SPAYED and NOOTERED! I may not know EVERYTHING, but I know that for sure!

A note from Daisy: I want to thank everybuddy so very, very much for their kind words and thoughts for me. It means a lot! My eyes are still getting better, so I wonder if it really is uveitis, which can take weeks to resolve. Still waiting on my test results which I hope to get this morning!

PS: Mommeh just called the vet's office and my test results are not in yet. Rats! She will be home from work tonight and maybe we will hear something by then. Waiting is hard.

95 Notes for Daisy:

Jemma Chihuahua said...

First of all, we are so sorry that you are going through this, Daisy. We hope it is something very minor and that you get all better very soon!

And Harley - there was a reason for all that waiting at the shelter - waiting sometimes pays off because you got the best home a cat could ever ask for!

Anonymous said...

Harley, we remember well your time as Neptune at the shelter. Momma cried and we cheered when we found out you got your Forever Home with Daisy and your Mommeh! You are not just handsome and smart, but you are one lucky mancat!

Smoochies to you and Daisy. We are glad to hear your eye is improving already, darling girl.

Daisy, we hope you get all better very soon. Harley, your story is very heartwarming and you must have been the ideal resident at the shelter. Sometimes the best things that happen just take a little longer. A perfect home is a best thing!

Puglette said...

harley, you are a lovely young mak cat. you stayed at the shelter just waiting for your mommeh, she was right there all along but you both had to wait for the right time. i am so glad you went home to live with daisy and her family, that way we all get to know you!

i am glad to hear your eye is getting better, daisy!

Harley, we doubt there were more handsome cats than you. We think that the fates kept you at the shelter till your perfect mummy came to get you (we think Daisy maybe had something to do with it too, she's very clever and probably knew you'd be a perfect brother)

Speaking of Daisy, she's still in all our thoughts. Lotsa purrs for her.

I am very surprised you were in the shelter for 6 months because you are such a handsome cool cat! You are lucky that you waited that long though, because now you have a very good forever home--the best you could possibly ever have!

Hope Daisy is okay and the test results are helpful.

What a great explaination Harley! Alice was adopted from a shelter too, but she wasn't borned there like you were.

We're sending BIG HUGE purrs to Miss Daisy to GET BETTER SOON!!!

So many others have said it already, Harley - by waiting, you got a really wonderful home and family. That is a great shelter you were at, though. Daisy, keep getting better, girl!

Marg said...

OH Daisy thank heavens you are getting better. That is the best news we have had. Hope you continue to get better.
Harley, you could have never found as good a home as you have right now even though you had to wait awhile. So Harley be nice to Daisy. She has a hurty eye. Have a good day everyone.

The Taylor CatSSSSS said...

Harley, you are indeed a very handsome cat! What a cute baby picture! You weren't adopted because your forever home was supposed to be with Daisy and her sweet Mommeh! Purrfection!

Daisy, so happy to hear that you are feeling better. We are purring for you.

Harley, it took time for you to get into the best home for you!!!

I was in a shelter for 6 months too so I know how long of a wait that is!

You were such a cute kitten and teen!

Harley, thanks so much for posting about the importance of adoption and spay/neuter!! What a wonderful message! We are so glad you were adopted into a wonderful forever home. Every kitty should be so lucky!

Daisy, we love you and we hope you continue to improve!

Forever Foster said...

We also think that you were in the shelter for 6 months because you were meant to become part of the CurlyCat family. It certainly has nothing to do with your handsomeness, as you are one of the most handsome cats we have ever seen!

Daisy, we are purring for you darling.

The Whiskeratti said...

Harley, you explained that very well! But since we think you were meant to live with Daisy and your Mom, the long wait was just part of it. It's hard to imagine any other reason you weren't chosen long before!

Sweet Purrfections said...

Harley, I am so glad that you found a wonderful forever home with Daisy and her mom!

Daisy - I am keeping my paws crossed and purring really hard that your eye is clearing up quickly and that you don't have that dreaded disease.

Hansel said...

DAISY! did you get jumped on by HARLEY or another kitty? Sometimes TRAMA can cause eyeballs to not respond correctly to light. it's a pain response. If it's improving that fast, i'd wonder if you didn't get hit in the head by a flying cat. We will be purring and thinking of you.

Harley, i do not understand why no one picked you at the shelter! that just doesn't make any sense. Maybe they picked the other cats because they were ugly and they felt bad for them? But they knew that you were so handsome you'd find a home?

Rosemary B❤️ said...

Harley, I am so proud and happy to know you! You are such a great friend to everyone!

Daisy, mom used to be a nurse- and she agrees, the uveitis does usually take much longer. I am going to just stay hopeful that this was just something that will never happen again.
bonkies to both of you for a happy day.

The Monkeys said...

Harley, we can see why your Mommy found you so irresistible! You were and are such a cutie!

We're still sending big purrs to you, Daisy! We hope your eye gets better soon!

Kea said...

Harley, we're so glad you were adopted! All of us were shelter kitties too--Annie at just under a year, Nicki and Derry at 6 months, and before them, Chumley who was 2 to 3 years old. You are right, every cat deserves a wonderful forever home and every cat should be spayed and neutered. Millions and millions of sweet kitties (and doggies too) are pts every year because of uneducated and/or uncaring humans. It makes our own human very upset!

Daisy, we still are sending tons of purrs and healing Light for your eye; we'll look for an update on your test results!

Anonymous said...

Bless you Daisy and I know that you'll be fine.

Harley, thanks for sharing your story, and look what a great home you found as your forever home.

Harvey, the other cat's weren't more handsome then you, it's just at God had a super special home picked out for you so you just had to wait that little bit longer.

Harley, I certainly can't understand why someone didn't pick you earlier, but really it was the best thing that could have happened. I can't imagine you having a better home, or sister cat than Daisy, so I guess it was meant to be.

You certainly are a loving and adorable kitty, and I'm so happy you were adopted by your beans. I can't imagine this blog without you.

What a great story, Harley! Both of my kitties are shelter kitties--well ALL of my kitties were shelter kitties.

When my Henry died, we went right away to give another kitty a home. The thought of us having all those sunny windows and a warm bed to give a kitty was just too much. Even though we were still grieving, we went a week later and brought Hobbes home. It helped us to stop crying so much.

I'm glad Daisy is getting better. Sometimes the doctor can be very, very wrong. We just learned that the hard way with Hobbes. Our vet told me he had FIP and was going to die. I want to reclaim all that time I spent crying!!!

Hey Harley, my catmom was feral and I was born at my shelter too, so we have something in common. We're happy you found a great forever home.

I can't imagine what people were thinking to not have scooped you up right away but it all worked out well because you got the BEST forever home...All my fur babies lived a long time at the shelter before I got to adopt them.

Daisy, glad your eyes are getting better - maybe it's just an allergy

Harley I am very happy you got a great home and great momma. We used to foster kitties just like you all the time! But Dexter and Cosmo got grumpy having kittens running around all the time, so now we help them out in different ways. Thanks for the happy ending story!

Excellent lesson, Harley! Both my kitties came from shelters. The paperwork for my sweet Cali said the owner could sell her or give her away. That made me sad until I realized that if he had been able to, she wouldn't have found her forever home with me! Thankfully, the shelter was just a temporary stop on the way to that happiness. :)

Continuing to send prayers & purrs for Daisy. Hope answers come soon. I know how hard it is to wait on those kind of things.

oh Harley, informative as always. i am verreh happeh you got 'dopted by Daisy's family. i am sorreh you had to wait so long before they came to get you, but if you hadn't we would not know you the way we do today! concatulations on being such a sweet, smart, handsome mancat. you can tell even in that first picture when you came to your new home, that you were destined to be a prince!

Mr. Hendrix said...

Harley, that is a wonderful story! I agree, all kitties should have a forever home. I think it wasn't that other cats were more handsome than you, I think it is that Bast and St. Francis knew you needed to go home with your forever mommy and Daisy so you had to wait until she came in. They know all about that stuff more than we kitties do.

Daisy, I am so sorry you aren't feeling well. We are sending hugs to your mommy cause she must be worried too. Please let us know how you are as soon as you hear! Waiting is very hard. purrrrrrs and purrrrrrs it is nothing at all.

Daisy thanks for the update - we are very very hopeful that this is not anything bad because your eyes are getting normal quickly - we are purring and praying that everything will be ok quickly!

And Harley, you are so good at explaining! We remember reading about you being from a shelter - we don't understand why you were there so long because we all think you were a very handsome and adorable cat. But we think it was because your forever home just wasn't ready yet - everyone has to have the perfect right one that is ready for them. And we do agree about getting kitties spayed and neutered as soon as possible. Hopefully some day soon every kitty will have their perfect forever home!

Harley, often, kittehs pick their hoomins. Maybe you didn't know it at the time, but perhaps you were sending a subliminal message to hoomins who came to the shelter and picked other kittehs, because you knew deep down that they weren't right for you.

But when your Mommeh came in, you knew that she would be the best Mommeh ever, and you chose HER! And she could tell that you wanted to go home with her, and now, there you are!

Daisy, I hope your eyes continue to get better, hopefully, it's nothing complicated. Sending lots of purrs your way!

Harley, you probably had to wait so long because you were meant to be with your mommeh who adopted you! She just didn't know you were there waiting for her! I think she got the pick of the litter, because you really are the cutest! You seem to have had a nice shelter there, taking care of you so well until your mommeh came, and you helping take care of the other kittehs. I kiss you!

Dennis is glad somebuddy tells the whole adoption story. Dennis was a very sickly kitty with a feral momcat and nobuddy wanted a kitten who looked sick and wouldn't eat and looked like he was about to pass out all the time. Dennis couldn't help being sick and having so many problems! Dennis needed special people to adopt him knowing he had problems. Dennis acts like an ingrate a lot, but that is an act, it's a cat thing. Dennis is really loving and appreciates people who adopt the kitties no one else will take a chance on. Those people are super!
