Medication Monday with Pixie

Hi! It is me, Pixie! I want to share with you my weekly medication regimen. I have already told you that I have hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. I also have severe asymmetric left ventricular hypertrophy, extremely severe left atrial enlargement, and history of syncope, and sinus arrest with ventricular escape rhythm. I am not sure, but I think that might mean I am a little bit sick. But I have had this condition for over 5 years now.
Here are the medications I take every day: Dilacor, Enalapril, Spironalactone, and Plavix. They all have to be cut up into halves or quarters. My Mommie prepares my pills for an entire week, and stores them in my special pill box. The Dilacor comes in a big capsule. My Mommie opens the capsule, and takes out the tablets inside the capsule; these get cut in half for my daily dose.
Some of the pills have a very bad taste. And I do not like to take FOUR pills. So, I get a special cheeseball with pills inside. I don't really chew up the pillball, but the cheese makes the pills stick together, and they slide right down my throat. After all these years, I am pretty good about taking my medicines.
I also go to a cardiologist every 9 - 12 months and have an echocardiogram of my heart! I do not enjoy going there very much though.

I would like to tell Icon Baxter Bentley that, when he asked me to be his valentine, my heart felt young again! Do not feel sorry for me, I am happy almost all of the time. Except when Daisy tries to chase me around. But then my Mommie says "Daisy, NO NO." I like when she says that. A lot.

ps: Daisy wanted to show another picture of her belly for Skeezix. But I said NO! It is my turn today!

Hi Pixie!!!
All the boycats think you are very brave and very beautiful - and you ARE! Did I tell you that I am a little bit sick too?
I have to take ear medicine because I have bacteria in my left ear.
Maybe I can come over and your Mom can put the medicine in my ear and give me a cheese ball too! p-p-please?
love, Icon Baxter Bentley

Pixie, it is good to hear from you. We had a cat with cardiomyopathy, though his was in the central wall between the two ventricals. He didn't have to take nearly as many medications--for which Momma was glad 'cause he didn't like pills.

Wow, those were alot of big medical words. We are glad that there are pills to help you - and cheese is always good! We like hearing from you, Pixie!

Wowee. We had to look some of that stuff up. Sounds like you've been to a heart specialist or two. We are glad you don't mind your cheeseball full of pills. Otherwise, you might end up hiding and running away all the time like Bow does from our Maw.

Bless your little heart, in more ways than one!!!

Well done for taking all your tablets and having a positive attitude. You look to lovely you would never know that you weren't 100% inside. Purr Purr FAZ

p.s. you have to forgive Daisy for chasing you sometimes, she is quite young and us youngsters often get a little over-enthusastic. I used to try and chase our old cat as well and she used to get very cross with me for annoying her

My gosh, Pixie, you are a super cat! I'm sorry you and your mom have to go through so much toil to keep you healthy. It's no fun to take pills, but I'm so happy to hear you get the best help available. I'm sure it gets tireseome to swallow all those zillions of pills. Your mom was smart to figure out that cheese balls make it easier. I love cheese balls. Yum. Grover and I send you lots of love and purrs! Stay healthy! XO

Gosh, that looks like what my beans do fur my boy!
Mom saw purrscripshun instruckshuns fur a 15-year old fixed cat that said, "Do not take if you are pregnant or nursing. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how this drug will affect you. May cause drowsiness."
As JH says, we were laffin an laffin! How can you tell if meds cause a CAT drowsiness?

We are glad that you are so good about pills, we don't like them!

By the way, we were glad that you posted today. We are worried that Skeezik and Daisy are getting too hot and heavy too fast. He keeps mentioning "urjes". Isn't he a little fixed for that? You as the big sister can discuss this with your Meowmy.

Cheers,

Wow Pixie, you're so incredible to take so many pills. I'm so happy to come back to your beautiful face on Daisy's blog. The Woman said she drove through your town on the Sawgrass Expressway and thought of stopping in but she knew us cats would be MAD at her.

Hi Pixie,
We enjoyed meeting you at the valentine party on Friday night.
We're glad you are a good girl and take your medicine. Our brufer Casper has HCM, and he has to take pills ever day, too.
We are also happy you have a valentine. Casper likes to pretend he is very carefree, but he's too shy to ask anyone to be his girlfriend.
Maybe he will find a speshul girl to be his valentine next year.
We wanted to send you special "healthy wishes" to help you keep your heart happy, too...
purrs..

Wow....that's a lot. The Cat Who Came Before Me had pretty much the same problem and took lots of pills every day, too. The Woman had no problem giving them to her, which just cheezes the heck out of her when I'm a PITB about taking mine...

Thare forsing barfy medisin down my skinny throte agin. I wish they'd put it in cheeze. I like cheeze. And the more ixpensive the better.

Tara said...

Thats a lot of pills! Mom used to have to give Baby (her cat before me), and she cut them up, then Dad would open his mouth, and she would shove it down with her finger. He was really good about tolerating this! But it was only one, not four! I think the cheese ball as a better idea. You are very lucky to have a mom who loves you enough to do this for you! Tara
